I Know The Cost of the Corporate Climb.
I Recognized the Pattern Because I’ve Survived It Before.
I didn’t build the NEST Framework because I read about stress in a textbook. I built it because I lived it.
The framework was born from a primal search for safety. By age 16, I was facing homelessness. Without a stable home, every day was a test of high-stakes survival: Where do I sleep? How do I appear “okay” when I feel unsafe? My nervous system was permanently locked in “fight-or-flight.” I fought my way into the Silicon Valley corporate world, believing a job title would finally provide the safety I craved. I had the title and the team, but the pressure came at a physical cost.
Then, I realized a terrifying truth.
The toxic pressure of the boardroom was triggering the exact same survival mechanisms I had used on the streets. The environment had changed, but my internal state remained the same: Unsafe. Hyper-vigilant. Dysregulated.
I was leading by day and collapsing by night, living proof that “success” is meaningless if you are too exhausted to enjoy it. That is when I understood that burnout isn’t a lack of willpower. It is a nervous system that never learned how to turn off.
